In the summer there are special events, such as a local fête, an antique & bric a brac fair and nocturnal markets. In the nearby towns and villages there are many markets, fairs, festivals etc. as well.
The region is ideal if you are looking for an active holiday. There are endless opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, rock climbing and cave exploration,to name just a few. Golf courses and tennis courts are all a few kilometres away.
The Dordogne river (within easy reach of Sainte Alvère) is wonderful for swimming and there are lots of places on both the Dordogne and the Vézère where you can hire canoes and kayaks. Or if you prefer to take it easy, you can sunbathe on the pleasant river beaches.
The region is well known for its prehistoric sites. Lascaux and Les Eyzies are among the most famous. Chateaux Wine lovers will be spoilt for choice if they decide to go on a tourist circuit from the Route des Vins:

Sarlat: 32km - Town completely renovated and classified as "monument historique". L'hôtel de la Boëtie, la cathédrale St Sacerdos, la chapelle des Pénitents Blancs (musée) et sa lanterne des Morts.
